On September 27, 2025, the Olathe Chapter of Olathe, Kansas, hosted their first ever “Swing under the Wings” Hangar Dance at the Commemorative Air Force (CAF) Hangar in New Century, KS.  A one-of-a-kind event with a 1940s theme, it offered a step back into history with live music, a buffet dinner with home baked desserts, a silent auction, and a vintage jewelry sale. Members donated photos of relatives who were in the service, which were used for table décor, along with family heirlooms and memorabilia of the time period. Mini dance lessons were available from volunteer instructors to learn moves from the WWII era. The CAF had several of its historic aircraft on display, and took guests on Jeep rides in antique vehicles. Their military museum was open for visitors and attendees enjoyed viewing their displays. Over 150 guests from the community attended, and more than 30 chapter members and HODARs served as volunteers at the event. Proceeds of the dance will support the chapter’s ongoing involvement in educational projects, historic preservation efforts, and support of veterans and active duty military personnel. The evening was truly magical, and created some unforgettable memories for all who attended.
