Patriotism

Honoring Our Veterans and Serving our Community

Patriotism is at the heart of the Olathe Chapter, NSDAR. We honor veterans, active-duty service members, and community heroes through meaningful projects and events.

Honoring Veterans

Supporting veterans and active-duty service members is a cornerstone of our chapter. Our members actively participate in programs that show appreciation and respect, including:

  • Decorating graves at the Olathe Memorial Cemetery.

  • Sponsoring memorials, such as the Gold Star Family Memorial Monument in Olathe Veterans Park.

  • Project Patriot – Providing services for active military.

  • Pathway of the Patriots -  The DAR Pathway of the Patriots is a living tribute that honors the memory and spirit of the men and women who helped achieve American independence. Learn more

  • Honoring our Patriots- Because DAR exists to honor everyone who helped win our nation’s independence, we play an important role in researching and sharing the stories of the many diverse people who contributed, including African American, Native American, and female Patriots. We are committed to shining a light on these often-overlooked heroes and ensuring their stories are remembered and celebrated. Learn More

  • Wreaths Across America- Please help us Remember, Honor, and Teach on December 13, 2025 (See location pages for ceremony and wreath placement details) by sponsoring a wreath through the Olathe Chapter, NSDAR. Learn more

We help welcome home Honor Flights and support active-duty service members through Project Patriot and care packages. Each month, we collect donations for the Leavenworth VA to assist veterans in both the hospital and rehab facility. In March, we play bingo with them and provide prizes and snacks. We also host an annual Veterans Luncheon and honor those who serve through ceremonies and everyday acts of gratitude.

“Honoring those who served is not just a tradition — it’s a daily commitment of our chapter members.”

Engaging the Community

Patriotism also means active participation in our local community. Olathe Chapter, NSDAR members regularly contribute to events and initiatives that connect neighbors, celebrate civic pride, and share the story of DAR:

  • Old Settlers Days in downtown Olathe

  • Novel-Tea scholarship fundraisers at the Olathe Library

  • Holiday gift-wrapping fundraisers and first-responder appreciation events

Through efforts such as these, including the Swing Under the Wings Hangar Dance fundraiser, the chapter fosters strong community ties while supporting education, veterans, and local initiatives.

“Serving our community is one of the most rewarding ways we live out our patriotism.”
