Scholarships
The Olathe Chapter, NSDAR offers several scholarships to support students in their educational pursuits. These scholarships are part of both local and state initiatives aimed at encouraging academic excellence and community involvement.
Olathe Chapter, NSDAR Scholarships
DAR Good Citizen Scholarship
The DAR Good Citizens Award and Scholarship Contest, created in 1934, is intended to encourage and reward the qualities of good citizenship.

This award recognizes and rewards high school seniors who possess the qualities of dependability, service, leadership, and patriotism in their homes, schools, and communities. These students are selected by their teachers and peers because they demonstrate these qualities to an outstanding degree.

This program is only open to students whose schools are accredited and in good standing with their state board of education.

Only one student per year may be honored as a school's DAR Good Citizen.

United States citizenship is not required.

Additional rules and guidelines can be obtained by contacting your local DAR chapter.
Once a student is chosen as their school's DAR Good Citizen the student is invited to participate in the scholarship portion of the program. This consists of a personal statement and an essay. Student participation in the scholarship portion of the program is optional.

Scholarships are awarded to essay winners at the chapter, state, division and national levels!

America 250! Scholarship
In celebration of America 250! a scholarship has been approved in the amount of $250 per year for 8 years. The time frame of 8 years was chosen because the American Revolution lasted 8 years. Scholarships will be awarded in the amount of $250, renewable for up to 3 years.

This scholarship will be awarded annually to a senior high school student in Johnson County, Kansas with a minimum GPA of 3.0. Renewal of scholarship with 2.5 college GPA or satisfactory rating at trade school.

The winning applicant must attend an accredited university, college or trade school in the fall after receiving this scholarship.

Applications must be received in their entirety by April 1, 2026 via email to the Olathe DAR Scholarship Committee, OlatheDAR.scholarship@gmail.com.

Applications must include â—‹ completed Application Form â—‹ Official High School Transcript â—‹ 500-1000 word original essay answering the question: “If you could eyewitness an American Historical Event, which would you choose and why?”​
Kansas Society DAR Scholarships
The Kansas Society of the Daughters of the American Revolution (KSDAR) offers scholarships to female high school seniors who are eligible or already members of DAR. These scholarships are intended for students planning to attend accredited colleges or universities. Chapter sponsorship is recommended, and applicants are required to submit four written references.

The Kansas Society of the Daughters of the American Revolution (KSDAR) provides two scholarships annually. Both the KSDAR Scholarship for young women and the Judd Smith Brooks Scholarship for young men are available to graduating students who are related to a descendant of a person who supported the efforts of the American Revolution. Students may contact the chapter for sponsorship.

National DAR Scholarships
The National Society Daughters of the American Revolution (NSDAR) provides a variety of scholarships for students pursuing higher education in fields such as history, economics, law, political science, medicine, nursing, occupational and physical therapy, and education. Applicants must be U.S. citizens and plan to attend an accredited college or university. The application process is entirely online through the DAR Academic Works Portal, with a deadline of January 31 each year.
